Then the LORD Rained Upon Sodom — Cities Globally Disappear

Genesis records the destruction of five cities — Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar — by a rain of fire and sulphur. First-century historian Josephus wrote that the traces of these cities were still visible in his day, on the borders of the Dead Sea rather than beneath it.

Near the Dead Sea, five distinct sites share a feature found nowhere else on earth: their remains are composed entirely of ash, riddled throughout with small balls of pure sulphur encased in burnt crystalline shells — physical evidence consistent with a literal rain of burning brimstone.

Careful analysis of ancient shoreline levels and site geography rules out the popular assumption that the cities lie underwater, pointing instead to specific ashen sites on land as the most likely remains of Sodom and Gomorrah.
