Wolves in Sheep's Clothing

Scripture warns plainly: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." (Matthew 7:15) This warning has been applied by numerous historians to the founding and activities of the Jesuit order, established by Ignatius of Loyola.

Historians have drawn a pointed contrast between Loyola and Martin Luther — two men born in the same era who each turned to intense religious devotion after near-fatal experiences, yet arrived at starkly different conclusions: one toward Scripture alone, the other toward deeper Roman mysticism.

Between 1555 and 1931, the Jesuit order was formally expelled from more than 80 countries and city-states for political intrigue and subversive activity — a documented historical pattern explored at length in numerous historical works on the subject.
